Carl Wayne ‘Skip’ Peterson of Houghton Lake

< >Carl Wayne “Skip” Peterson, 78, of Houghton Lake, passed away April 28, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side.

< >He was born on February 3, 1939 in Houghton Lake to John and Verna (Howe) Peterson. He spent most of his life in the Houghton Lake area and was a 1958 graduate of Houghton Lake Community Schools. He was employed for many years as a Plant Manager by Hancock Industry of Roscommon, retiring in 1996.

< >Mr. Peterson was a craftsman, enjoying doing projects for family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, traveling, and loved spending time with family.

< >Surviving are his loving wife of 34 years, Albirta Ann “Bert”Peterson of Houghton Lake; three sons, Mark Peterson of Falmouth, Denny (Kate) Ratliff of Roscommon, and Jason (Bethany) Peterson of Lansing; eight daughters, Shelia (Doug Johnston) Peterson of Higgins Lake, Shelly (Tim) Hynes of Falmouth, Erica (Tom) Leedy of Merritt, Sally Ratliff of St. Augustine, FL; Linan (Carl) Mason of Houghton Lake, Christine (Rob) Boorsma of Holland, Amy (Steve) Mason of Higgins Lake, and Jessica (Nate) Shanley of Weirton, WV; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

< >Also surviving are four brothers, Martin (Bev) Peterson of Grayling, Jack (Nila) Peterson of Grayling, Tom (Joanne) Peterson of Lansing, and Russell (Sue) Peterson of Eaton Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

< >He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley Peterson; sister, Vivian Williams; daughter, Jeanette Ratliff; grandson, George Asay; and former wife Sandra VandenBoss.

< >Family will greet friends May 8 from 10 am until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service at Christler Funeral Home- Houghton Lake Chapel.

< >Memorial contributions in memory of Carl are asked to be directed to the Center Shot Kids at Houghton Lake United Methodist Church.

< >Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
