Virginia ‘Jean’ M. Wilkins of Sterling Heights, Higgins Lake Memorial Service

Virginia “Jean” M. Wilkins, 97, of Sterling Heights passed away Jan. 19, 2017 at Beaumont Hospital, Troy.

Funeral services will be conducted May 6 at St. Hubert Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernard Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.

 

Jean was born Nov. 20, 1919 in Avon Lake, Ohio to Charles and Judith (Lissy) Huber. She married Harvey J. Wilkins Aug. 7, 1943 in Avon Lake, Ohio.

She resided in Sterling Heights since 2014, Higgins Lake since 1982, coming from Detroit and New York City.

Mrs. Wilkins was employed as a receptionist by J.L. Hudson at Northland for more than 20 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Hubert Catholic Church, Higgins Lake.

She also was a member of TOPS, volunteered at Hilltop Manor in Roscommon, and enjoyed cross-stitching and being with her grand and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two children, Judie (Steve) Martin of Higgins Lake and Chris (Marge) Wilkins of Sterling Heights; six grandchildren, Deborah Nicol, Heather (Tom) Schram, Michelle (Ken) Bertrand, Dr. Joy (Ben Philpot) Martin, MD, Michael (Korry) Wilkins and Matthew (Rebecca) Wilkins; eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Dylan, Chloe, Sophie, Cooper, Declan, Colton and Ronan; and sister-in-law, Joyce Macklom of Livonia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; son, Leonard James Wilkins; four brothers, Rob, Vic, Chuck and Dan Huber; and four sisters, Ruth and Clare Hassel, Sister Mildred Huber and Joan Freeland.

Funeral services will be conducted May 6 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Bernard Tyler officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Lyon Township.

Memorial donations may be made to Beaumont Hospital.
