Barbara Jane DeWitt of Roscommon

Barbara Jane DeWitt, 85 of Roscommon, passed away March 20, 2017 at The Brook of Roscommon.

Barbara was born April 15, 1931 in Roscommon to LaVern H. and Laura Olive (Richardson) Williams. She was a lifetime Roscommon resident.

Barbara married Robert G. DeWitt Nov. 22, 1950 in Angola, IN.

Barbara was a second grade teacher at Standish, West Branch and Roscommon Elementary Schools for over 30 years, retiring in 1989.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, Roscommon.

Barbara enjoyed travel, playing cards and reading. She loved genealogy and created a family volume that will be treasured by generations to come. She also enjoyed traveling mostly in the United States and had been to Alaska several times.

Surviving are two daughters, Laura (James) Cherven and Jennie Walker both of Roscommon; seven grandchildren, Dawn and Dustin DeWitt, Christopher (Brooke) Cherven, Kathryn Cherven, Michael (Kristen) Walker, Matthew (Sophia) Walker and Laura Walker (significant other, Tyler Watters); three great-grandchildren, Keegan and Emily Cherven and Bailie DeWitt; sister, Mary (Robert) Link of Higgins Lake; two sisters-in-law, Nancy and Camilla DeWitt both of Roscommon; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry DeWitt of Roscommon and Jon (Mary Ann) DeWitt of Grand Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert DeWitt; son, Dana L. DeWitt; and sister, Bernice Tulk.

Services will be held in the summer at First Congregational Church in Roscommon. Burial will be at Gerrish Township Cemetery, Roscommon.

Memorial donations may be made to Roscommon Area Historical Society or RCCF-Gerrish Higgins Alumni Association Scholarship.

Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon is serving the family.
