John M. Stephens of Houghton Lake

John M Stephens, 92, of Houghton Lake, passed away May 20, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on October 17, 1923 in Gladwin to Gordon and Hannah (Borden) Stephens. Following graduation from high school he joined the Army Air Corp serving in WW II from 1942 to 1945. He married Wanda A Roberts.

Mr. Stephens was in engineering, employed by Consumers Energy for many years, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spent many months at the Two Heart River camping and fishing.

Surviving are his loving wife Wanda A Stephens of Houghton Lake; two sons, Ronald (Linda) Stephens of Sonomish, Washington, and John Stephens of Bellingham, Washington; daughter, Connie Stephens Conroy of Vason, Washington; step-daughter, Candice Beedy Husman of Fort Myers, Florida; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are sister, Virginia Nash of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Eva Roberts, Marion Probst, Maxine Schubert, and Helen Baird; and his brother Newell Stephens.

Celebration of life services will be conducted by the family at a later date.

Memorial contributions in memory of John are asked to be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
