ROSCOMMON – The event was held on May 21 at the Roscommon County Blodgett Memorial Airport.  Airport Manager, Eric Jaroch, and members from the Roscommon EAA Chapter took veterans and a guest up for flight over beautiful Houghton and Higgins Lakes.  The weather was cooperative, and there was a great turnout.  Veterans were able to socialize and enjoy music by Dale Hafner as well as the RCCOA Music in the Air choir ensemble.  Tasty tacos were provided by the food truck, Taco Lady.

Sponsors for the event were Lori Darga and Heath Nemeth of the Roscommon County Veterans Affairs Office; Suzanne Luck of the Roscommon County Community Foundation; Airport Manager, Eric Jaroch, and his team; and Amy Cook Otto from NEMCSA’s AmeriCorps Senior Volunteer Program.  “The goal of the Fly In event was to bring veterans together, give them a great afternoon and show gratitude and appreciation for their service,” says Cook Otto, Services Coordinator for the AmeriCorps Senior Volunteer Program.  “I would like to thank Eric Jaroch all the sponsors, Deb Looney, Activities Director for RCCOA; Austin Gates, Services Coordinator for NEMCSA/AmeriCorps Senior Volunteer Program; volunteers, Karen Hall and Barb Ernest; Roscommon County EMT and, of course, all the veterans and individuals of Roscommon County for taking part in this event.”
