ROSCOMMON – The Lion’ Den Mission Bible Training Center (MBTC) is a division of Mission Teens, Inc. Mission Teens began in 1969 in Norma, NJ after its founder, Reverend James D. Bracken saw there was a need for an effective ministry for the troubled young people who were attending his home prayer meetings.
The Lion’ Den is their 19th center and will be opening in Roscommon in the spring of 2018. The faith based rehabilitation center is their second center in Michigan. The other is located in Gaastra in the U.P.
‘We are an eight to ten month discipleship training program,’ James DeArmond of the Lion’ Den said. ‘It’ a Christ centered, Bible centered program for those with life controlling issues such as drugs and alcohol.’
DeArmond explained why the program was brought to Roscommon. ‘Dr. Michael Ritchie encountered someone in the ministryGǪ He understands the program. He was determined to get us up here.’
The Lion’ Den will be a residential program for men and women of all ages, and free of charge. The center is located at 111 Union Street in Roscommon (formerly DHS office). They hope to house 50 staff and residents.
Before they can open, DeArmond said they need to bring the building up to code, install a $14,000 sprinkler system, fire rated doors, shower stalls and more.
Roscommon Baptist Church will be hosting an informational/fund raising social Dec. 9. There will be an open house to meet and talk with those involved in this mission’ ministry including both leaders and those who have been blessed by it.
Coffee and desserts will be served between 3 and 6 p.m. At 6 p.m. there will be a worship and praise service.
