GAYLORD – In June 2024, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post responded to a report of two individuals squatting in a cabin in Otsego County. Upon arrival, officers found 74-year-old John Dominick Bromley and his 68-year-old wife living in the cabin without permission.
During the investigation, troopers observed extensive bruising on the woman and noted she was struggling to breathe. Emergency services were called, and she was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City due to the severity of her injuries.
While hospitalized, the woman disclosed a history of domestic abuse to MSP troopers from the Traverse City Post. Tragically, she passed away a few days later.
After her death, Bromley attempted to gain access to the hospital morgue by impersonating a trooper but was denied entry. Following a lengthy investigation, an autopsy was conducted, and findings were submitted to the Otsego County Prosecutor’s Office. A
n arrest warrant was issued in early 2025. Bromley was arrested during a traffic stop in Oakland County on Feb. 9, after the warrant was flagged. He was transported to Otsego County and lodged in the county jail.
This week, Bromley was arraigned in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on charges of Aggravated Domestic Violence and First-Degree Vulnerable Adult Abuse.
His bond was set at $50,000 cash surety. Additionally, Bromley is facing charges in Grand Traverse County for impersonating a police officer.
