IOSCO COUNTY- The Iosco-Arenac District Library (IADL) informed us that Merit, the required internet provider for libraries due to E-rate rules, leases fiber from Spectrum in our area. Spectrum recently told them the needed fiber installation will take 6–9 months. Because of this, the library move to the Plaza is delayed until spring. I’ll share more information as we receive it.
The county recycling program is now fully operating at all three sites. The final containers were placed at the Oscoda School location two weeks ago. Drop-off sites are available anytime in Oscoda, at the Chamber of Commerce lot on East Sherman Road in Whittemore, and at the Tawas City ice arena off M-55. Sites are monitored, and the program also offers electronics and household hazardous waste recycling. Two events were held this past summer and fall, with more planned next year.
Our holiday parade and Santa visit are set for Saturday, December 13, starting around 5 p.m. Parade line-up is at 4:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church, and a trophy for best light display will be provided by Michigan Mud Jam. We’ll also have family activities, crafts, cookie decorating, and food and refreshments from the Historical Commission. Please join us!
If you’d like to help keep downtown decorated, contact the Hale Garden Club (P.O. Box 174, Hale, MI 48739) or Bev Mason at 989-305-8823. Volunteers and donations are always welcome.
Looking to get active? Consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza. Enjoy pickleball, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking, or TOWANDA classes. Stop in and see Roma about family or group rates. While visiting, check out the Plainfield Township Historical Museum on Tuesdays—they also offer genealogical workshops.
For questions or concerns, I’m available Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m. at 989-728-2811, cell 989-984-7073, or supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com
