Contractor charge with fraud for actions across three counties

BENZIE COUNTY — On Oct. 23, 2024, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Traverse City Post began investigating an alleged contractor fraud case involving Travis Reimer, 55, of Kingsley.

Preliminary investigators said homeowners across northern Michigan paid Reimer more than $400,000 between 2017 and the present for home additions and other construction projects. While subcontractors completed some of the work, Reimer allegedly did not pay them and instead used the money for personal gain. Projects connected to the case span Benzie, Grand Traverse and Antrim counties.

After a formal review, the Benzie County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant for his arrest. Reimer was arrested Jan. 28 and lodged at the Benzie County Jail without incident.

He was arraigned Jan. 29 in the 85th District Court in Benzie County on two counts of contractor — fraudulent use of building contract fund. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.

Police said Reimer may have had contact with additional individuals in the community during this period. Anyone who believes they may be a victim is encouraged to contact the MSP Traverse City Post at 231-938-0714.
