CLARE – Roland Bourgeois, 56, of Lake was sentenced last Friday in Clare County’s 55th Circuit Court by Judge Tara Hovey to 50 months to 24 years in prison on two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.
Bourgeois, who was convicted by a Clare County jury in November 2024, was sentenced as a fourth habitual felony offender.
According to a statement from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, in 2018 Bourgeois committed multiple acts of criminal sexual conduct against a child relative, including “forcing her to touch his genital area.”
The victim did not disclose the abuse until 2023* when she confided in a school counselor. Her delayed disclosure was, in part, due to Bourgeois repeatedly instructing her not to tell anyone.
“This prison sentence is possible thanks to the tireless efforts of Child Protective Services, the Michigan State Police, prosecutors in my office, and the victim’s courage to come forward” Nessel said. “My office remains committed to working with our partners to hold sexual assault perpetrators accountable and support their victims.”
Michigan Child Protective Services and the Michigan State Police investigated this case. The Michigan attorney general’s office led the prosecution at the request of the Clare County prosecuting attorney.
