Kalkaska man charged with using car, weapon in assault

KALKASKA –  On Thursday evening, April 4, 2024, troopers from the Michigan State
Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post and deputies from the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office were
dispatched to a home in Cold Springs Township.

According to an MSP statement, it was alleged that the suspect, 42-year-old Nathan Eli
Stickney from Mancelona had a confrontation with his spouse at a home in Antrim County, during which he intentionally drove his vehicle into hers several times, while she and their children were in the vehicle.

Later that same evening at their home in Cold Springs Township, Stickney allegedly assaulted his spouse while their children were present.
The children ran to family member’s home next door and Stickney followed them. Stickney returned to his home a short time later, kicked in the door, retrieved, and loaded a 50-caliber muzzle loader.

He then returned to the family’s home next door where he pointed the gun at a person through a window.

Stickney then kicked in their door, pointed the gun at a man and threatened to kill him. The victim fought Stickney off, sustaining a serious laceration to his hand, while trying to keep the weapon pointed away from him.

Stickney left the house, shot the gun one time in the air, and fled the scene in his vehicle
before officers arrived.

On the early morning of April 5 deputies from the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office saw Stickney driving and attempted a traffic stop. Stickney fled from deputies for a short distance before stopping in a parking
lot, where he was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Stickney was arraigned last week in the 87-B District Court in Kalkaska County on one count Assault with Intent to Murder, one count Home Invasion First Degree, one count Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder, one count Dangerous Weapon/Carry with Unlawful Intent, two counts Assault
with a Deadly Weapon, one count Felony Firearms, one count Fourth Degree Flee & Elude, and one count Resisting and Obstructing Police.

He is currently lodged in the Kalkaska County Jail with a $100,000 bond. His next scheduled court appearance is on April 22 at 1:30 p.m.
