Mississippi man runs stop sign; Causes serious accident

ROSCOMMON COUNTY, MI. On Thursday evening, June 30, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post responded to a two-vehicle crash on N Old 27 Highway/N Harrison Road near County Road 104 in Lyon Township that sent four people to the hospital.


According to MSP reports, the initial investigation indicates a 2011 GMC Sierra was north bound on Old-27 Highway/N Harrison Road. A 2020 Ford Edge pulling a trailer with a jet ski was west bound on County Road 104 and allegedly did not stop at the intersection. The Sierra struck the Edge as it entered the intersection.


The driver of the Edge, a 55-year-old man from Perkinston, Mississippi, was airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with life-threatening injuries. The female passengers, a 22-year-old and 16-year, old both from Perkinston, MS, were transported to Munson Grayling Hospital.

The driver of the Sierra, a 55-year-old man from Roscommon, was transported to Munson Grayling Hospital.

Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office, conservation officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Houghton Lake EMS, and Lyon Twp. EMS.


The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
