Sharon A. Hacker nursing scholarship established

ROSCOMMON COUNTY – The Roscommon County Community Foundation has established a fund, alongside long-time Houghton Lake resident, Randy Hacker, that will appeal to Houghton Lake high school seniors interested in pursuing a degree in nursing.

Randy and Sharon Hacker were married in August of 1996. Randy operated his own trucking company and Sharon worked in the propane industry for most of her career. Sharon spent her time volunteering at Genesys Hospital, The Salvation Army, and The Mott Foundation. Sharon’s life-long dream was to become a nurse, however, due to life’s circumstances her dreams were not fulfilled.

After Sharon sadly lost her battle to cancer in September 2022, Randy established the Sharon A. Hacker Nursing Scholarship Fund to celebrate Sharon and her dream to become a nurse. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote and encourage others to pursue their education and fulfill their potential.

The scholarship is a one-year award for a graduating senior from Houghton Lake High School with a grade point average of 2.25 or higher who plans to continue their education at an accredited college, university, community college, or trade/technical/vocational school.
