Gahagan Cleaned During Earth Day

ROSCOMMON – On Saturday, April 21, a couple dozen friends of the Marguerite Gahagan Nature Preserve gathered there to clean up the cabin and garage in celebration of Earth Day. The plan was also to clean up the grounds, but several inches of snow lingering from the mid-April storm made that a job for another day.

The Headwaters Land Conservancy partnered with Gahagan in organizing the event. Girl Scout Troop Leaders Kate Gammicchia, and Stacy and Joe Pigeon brought their scouts to help. Several members of the Roscommon Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby lent a hand as well.

The Marguerite Gahagan Nature Preserve is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. It provides environmental education programs for schools in surrounding counties. The preserve is 60 acres, with three miles of trails for hiking, birding, and snowshoeing. There is also an asphalt and boardwalk trail that is wheelchair accessible.
