Tween photography club started at library

ROSCOMMON – The first meeting of the Tween Photography Club was held at the Roscommon Area District Library Jan. 16. The ten members received their digital camera and a challenge for the month. Local photographer Jen Green of jenEgreen photography spoke with the members on subjects including lighting and posing.

The Tween Photo Club was funded by the Roscommon Rotary who purchased a digital camera and memory card for club participant (to use for the duration of the club) as well as three color printers and photo paper for high quality printing.

The Club runs from January through April. Each month members will receive a ‘Community Challenge’. When they next meet they will look at the photos they took, then choose their favorite to print.

The library will host a Photo Show April 18-21 displaying the club’ photos in the main library. April 21 the tweens will be present to tell about their photos during an open house with light refreshments.

Youth Library Services Coordinator Brittany Jacobs is leading the club.

‘The club is so they can learn about photography and to engage with the community,’ Jacobs said.

The tweens all had different reasons they wanted to participate and what photography means to them.

‘You always have something to remember about that moment,’ member Paige Pigeon said.

‘It’ like a hobby you can see pieces of art with,’ fellow member Karly Patchin said.

The last part of the meeting the members were asked to pair up, go into the library and find a book. They were then to take a photo of their partner reading the book.

The club meets again Feb. 20, March 20, and April 17. The open house on April 21 is from 12 – 3 p.m. and is open to the public.
