Hooray for May! After March’s ice storm and April’s heavy rain and flooding, many are ready for warmer days, blooming flowers, and a sunny summer ahead.

May is also a month to recognize many deserving people. National Teachers Day is May 5, National Nurses Day is May 6, Mother’s Day is May 10, and Armed Forces Day is May 16.

Memorial Day on May 25 is a time to honor those who gave their lives while serving our country.

Congratulations as well to graduates of Fairview Area Schools and Mio AuSable Schools as they begin new journeys.

Food distribution dates this month include:

  • CSFP Cheese Box Pickup: Friday, May 8 at noon at Tri-Pointe Church of God. Applications and approval through the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan are required. Applications are available at the Senior Center.
  • Together We Can Food Pantry: Thursday, May 21 from 11:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Bring ID and a banana box if possible. Supplies first come, first served.

The Council on Aging delivered 2,083 home-delivered meals in March and served 449 congregate lunches Monday through Friday.

The Board of Directors meeting will be Monday, May 11 at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.

Exercise class is held Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., with a second Thursday morning class starting in May. Call the Senior Center after May 4 for the time. Euchre is played on Wednesdays at 12:45 p.m.

May also features two full moons: the Flower Moon on May 1 and a Blue Moon on May 31, which will also be a micro moon and appear slightly smaller than usual.

Take time each day to be grateful, share a smile, and offer kindness, it can truly brighten someone’s day.
