Ogemaw County Veteran of the Year announced

OGEMAW COUNTY- Jack Alex Wester was named “2022 Ogemaw County Veteran of the Year” by the Ogemaw County Veterans Alliance.  The Veterans Alliance, through the member organizations, represents all veterans in Ogemaw County. This award is the highest honor that the alliance can present to a fellow veteran.

Jack was born in Marquette, Michigan and graduated from LaSalle High School.

After attending two years at Northern Michigan University, Jack decided to join the Army.  Following his training, he was assigned to the Army Security Agency in Vincenza, Italy for the next 30 months as a support engineer.

When his tour was finished, he decided not to re-enlist. He returned to Michigan and worked for Ford Motors for more than thirty years.

Jack has been an advocate for veterans in Ogemaw County and dedicates his time to help serve other veterans. He is a Chaplain and Past Commander, American Legion Post 370 Member, Honor Guard, Exalted Commander, Redford Elks Member, Moose Lodge 440 Member, Volunteer for the Ogemaw County Veterans Museum, and has conducted fundraisers for The Special Olympics.

“I will continue to serve the Ogemaw County Community, along with the American Legion and all the Veterans for as long as I am able” Wester said. “I accept this award knowing that many other veterans are deserving of this award. I wish to thank everyone for this honor bestowed upon me by the Veterans of Ogemaw County.”
