Q: What’s your “day job” in 10 words or less?
A: Office and groundwork at Oscoda County Park in Mio.

Q: What pulled you into the work you do now?
A: My future husband Jim did. We met when he was working at Alcona Park in Glennie. I worked alongside him on the West side for three years and then relocated to Oscoda County Park when he got the manager position there.
Q: Tell us about your family.
A: We have a blended family with his two daughters and our daughter together. Our life is centered around the outdoors from hunting, gardening, foraging and working at the campground.
Q: What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

A: I am originally a city gal and didn’t grow up camping. My love for nature came from traveling and living out of my Buick LeSabre along the west coast during my early 20s.

Q: What’s the most “Northern Michigan/Small-town” moment you’ve had?

A: I met one of my closest friends along the AuSable when I first moved up here. Now eight years later, she spent the winter camping in our backyard and camps with us at OCP.

Q: Coffee or tea? (And where’s your go-to place?)

A: Oh my. .. well both. Boffee for the morning and tea for the evening. I don’t often go out for either, I love Tim Hortons coffee and my own blend of herbal tea that I’ve foraged or grown myself.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you were ever given—and by who?

A: I attended a Vipassana 10 day silent meditation retreat several years ago and it changed my life.  My take away from it was “everything is in a constant state of change and nothing is permanent”
