TAWAS CITY — The Iosco Conservation District has announced the recipients of its 2026 Scholarship Program.

The new scholarship recognizes students pursuing coursework in an environmental, agricultural or natural resource-related discipline. Applicants were required to be high school seniors or students currently enrolled at an accredited college or university. They also had to be originally from, currently living in, attending school in or working within Iosco County.

Applicants were asked to submit a completed scholarship application, one professional letter of recommendation and a current transcript.

The 2026 scholarship recipients are Rebecca Ferns, currently a junior at Michigan State University studying biosystems engineering and agronomy, and Ellery Coleman, a 2026 graduate of Hale Area Schools who will attend Albion College to study environmental science and biology.

Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship award to support their continued education.

The scholarship selection committee evaluated applicants based on field of study, academic performance, community engagement, future aspirations and letters of recommendation.

This is the first year the Iosco Conservation District has offered the scholarship. The district said it looks forward to continuing to support students pursuing degrees in conservation-related fields.
