EMMET COUNTY – In the wake of the recent severe ice storm that devastated Emmet County—leaving thousands without power and causing significant damage—the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation has established an Emergency Response Fund to aid local recovery efforts.
The Emergency Response Fund is designed to support eligible nonprofit organizations and government entities that are providing critical emergency services to individuals and communities across Emmet County. It also offers operational funding for nonprofits directly affected by the disaster.
“This storm has impacted our entire county, and full recovery may take weeks,” said DJ Jones, Executive Director of the Community Foundation. “We’ve seen neighbors step up to help one another, and organizations quickly mobilize to meet urgent needs. The Emergency Response Fund strengthens that community effort—ensuring vital support reaches those who need it most.”
The fund will provide grants to eligible nonprofits for a wide range of recovery efforts, including but not limited to:
• Distribution of food and essential supplies
• Medical expenses not covered by insurance
• Temporary housing for displaced individuals
• Financial assistance with utility and housing costs
• Cleanup and rebuilding projects
• Community resilience and disaster planning initiatives
Additionally, grants may help nonprofit organizations maintain or resume operations disrupted by the emergency. Funding can also be applied to eligible expenses already incurred in response to the disaster.
Donations to the Emergency Response Fund can be made online at phsacf.org, or by mailing a contribution to:
