ROSCOMMON – February marks Michigan’s CTE Month, a time to recognize the transformative impact of Career and Technical Education (CTE) on students, local economies, and communities. In Northern Michigan, C.O.O.R. ISD celebrates its students’ successes while highlighting the essential role CTE plays in workforce development.
CTE provides students with real-world skills and hands-on experience, preparing them for high-demand careers. At the core of these efforts is the C.O.O.R. Intermediate School District’s Advanced Technical Innovation Center (CATIC), offering industry-relevant training for local students in fields like Automotive Technology, Business and Marketing, Cosmetology, Education, Medical Occupations, Public Safety, and Welding.
CATIC blends academics with practical skills, equipping students to enter the workforce directly or continue their education. Strong connections to local businesses through internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing give students invaluable experience while building employer relationships. Many graduate with industry certifications, making them job-ready, while others pursue further education with a clearer career path.
In addition to certifications, students can earn college credits through CATIC’s Early Middle College (EMC) and Direct College Credit programs, applying them toward an associate degree at Kirtland Community College or transferring credits to other institutions across Michigan.
In Northern Michigan, where career opportunities can be limited, CTE programs like those at CATIC create pathways for students to build successful futures while staying in their communities. By focusing on workforce-relevant training, CATIC is helping to retain young talent and meet local job demands.
C.O.O.R. ISD is committed to expanding CTE offerings and fostering collaboration between schools, businesses, and community organizations, shaping a stronger future for Northern Michigan—one skilled graduate at a time.
