Letter to editor: United Way thankful for support

To the Editor:
It is not quite Thanksgiving season yet, but we at United Way of Clare and Gladwin Counties are feeling very thankful for the communities that we serve! We have been conducting an annual campaign for over 25 years, and funds raised from this campaign go to support local programs at local agencies to benefit people right here in Clare and Gladwin Counties. For the first time, instead of an annual breakfast to kick off the fall campaign season, we held symbolic kickoffs and miracle minute fundraisers at a home football game at each one of the 5 high schools in our counties.

We are so grateful to the superintendents, high school principals, athletic directors, coaches, teachers, and staff that enthusiastically supported our efforts by helping the details fall into place and recruiting all of the excellent student volunteers. We were able to raise awareness of the work United Way does in our communities to a wider audience, and had a great time at all the games!

So thank you Beaverton Beavers, Clare Pioneers, Farwell Eagles, Gladwin Flying G’ and Harrison Hornets! We appreciate you so much!
We would also like to thank the businesses who have faithfully supported our kickoff events and held workplace campaigns over the years; without them our work would not be possible.

Thanks to all of you, our 2017 campaign is off to a good start. To find out more about how our United Way works in our communities, to volunteer with us, or to support our campaign, please visit www.unitedwaycgc.org or contact our office at 989-386-6015 or 989-426-9225.

With many thanks,
Jennifer Long, Executive Director
