The adventures of Spring naps

Time to change out my winter throw blankets for my spring ones. We are now solidly into spring, Michigan style! What is spring ‘Michigan style? Well it starts with a few more below freezing mornings, and the robins still wear their coats! Mix in a freezing rain or two along with some snow showers that hit at night, and then melt away by late afternoon. We begin to feel a little calmer knowing that summer is getting closer.

As I settled into my ‘Comfy Chair’ for a nice spring nap, I chose the spring wildlife throw, the one that reminds me of a Disney movie complete with lots of baby animals. One looks like thumper, one looks like a playful skunk and one looks like ‘Bambie.’

I closed my eyes and drifted off to slumberland. I woke up abruptly, or so I thought and found myself in a forest, there were all sorts of buds, flowers and green things springing out of the ground.

< >I spread my arms and began to sing ‘The Hills Are Alive, With the Sound of Music!’ All of the forest animals, birds, smiling bugs, came out of the woods and gathered around me, many joined in signing. ‘With Songs They Have Sung For A Thousand Years!’ I looked down and thank goodness, I was myself and not Julie Andrews!

Have you ever had dreams where you are dreaming that you are somebody else? I often dreamed that I was Captain James Tiberius Kirk from ‘Star Trek!’ I remember a dream where I was ‘Hercules’ I pulled down the pillars I was chained to and the horses did not stand a chance!

< >I love the dreams where I can fly, not like Superman, but if I hold my breath and flap my wings, I float up into the sky. When I would take a breath I would begin to sink down, so I would flap my arms harder and float back up! Underwater dreams are cool also, while I cannot swim as fast as Aquaman, I can stay under for hours and have fun on Australia’ Great Barrier Reef!

< >I have had dreams where I can eat whatever I want from a super buffet, and not gain any weight! I have won the lottery in dreams and climbed mountains! As I began to sing the next verse of ‘The Sound of Music’ and all of a sudden there was an earthquake. The animals scrambled back to the safety of the forest, the earthquake began to move up my body to my shoulder, back & forth my shoulder swayed.

< >Then I heard my wife say, ‘Joel, you need to take the garbage out, I hear them coming up the street.’

< >’Okay’ I groggily sighed; I guess its time to get back to reality. I just can’t wait till my afternoon nap; I wonder what adventure awaits me!
