Roscommon Rotarians host dinner and auction

ROSCOMMON – Roscommon Rotary hosted its 30th annual Roscommon Rotary Dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall on May 6. The event included dinner, drinks, and both live and silent auctions.

The auction was led by Matt Nester.

Auction items included; a sailing trip, a handmade photo blanket, framed digital photography and a bucket of liquor. Items came from locals and other people.

Participants could also purchase separate tickets for a grill and other items.

”We raise money for the ticket items and we have money for the games- one game there was our fish bowl game, we also do tickets for the grill- there’ multiple ways to win,’ Rotary Member Wally Chwan said.

According to Chwan, the Roscommon Rotary Dinner is its biggest fundraiser.

‘We have this dinner because we have three fundraisers every year and this is our biggest fundraiser, all proceeds go back into the community; this is our biggest way to support the community,’ Chwan said.

Roscommon Rotary originally came up with this dinner 30 years ago, but it wasn’t an original, public themed dinner.

‘This was our 30th anniversary, originally it was a white elephant dinner for us Rotarians at the White Birch Lodge. Then one Rotarian suggested we open this to the public as a fundraiser,’ Chwan said.
