Oktoberfest raises funds for Assessment Center

By Ron Ellerman II

ROSCOMMON – Fall is in the air and a perfect time for Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest is the fundraiser for the Northern Michigan Children’ Assessment Center (NMCAC) located in Roscommon that was held at the Knights of Columbus Oct 28.

This fundraiser offered fun for both adults and children with a play area for the kids that included pumpkin decorating and corn hole games along with other crafts. The adults enjoyed drinks, music by a DJ and a live band along with a raffle for prizes and a 50/50. Many local businesses donated financially while others donated prizes to help support NMCACs mission.

Approximately 100 people attended the event and with sponsorships and donations from guest, a little over $3700 was raised to support the center.

‘We greatly appreciate all who attended to make this event successful,’ Executive Director Rebecca Yuncker said. ‘All proceeds will benefit the children.’

NMCAC was founded by Yuncker and opened its doors in 2014 to provide a service to children who may have suffered a traumatic event such as physical abuse or sexual assault in the Crawford, Ogemaw, Oscoda, and Roscommon counties. NMCAC provides a safe space for children to tell their story to trained forensic interviewers, have medical exams, and counseling all in one location. By reducing the number of times a child has to tell their story of what happened, other team members such as Law Enforcement and Children’ Protective Services can get the information they need all while reducing the stress and trauma the child has suffered.

For more information on NMCAC visit their website www.nmcac4kids.org.
