Entries sought for Warbler calendar

 

REGION – Artistic entries for the 2017 Kirtland’ Warbler Young Artist’ Calendar Contest are now being accepted from students in grades K-8. Entries must be original and demonstrate an understanding of northern Michigan’ unique jack pine forests, the Kirtland’ warbler or any other creatures that live in the jack pine forest.

Artwork should be in color and completely fill one side of an 8 -+ by 11 inch sheet of white paper. The paper must be horizontally oriented. There should be no writing or text on the artwork side of the page and copyrighted cartoon characters such as Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl should not be used.

The winning drawings will be used in creating the next Kirtland’ Warbler Young Artists calendar and Kirtland’ Warbler Festival. Student names, teachers, and schools will be identified on the calendar and winning entries will receive a free copy of the 2017-2018 Calendar.

Entries must be received by Wednesday March 8, 2017. Contest entries may be delivered in person or mailed to: Mio Ranger Station, Attn: KW Calendar Contest, 107 McKinley Road, Mio, MI 48647. Entries will be reviewed by a community panel of judges and the contest winners will be notified before the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

Limited quantities of the 2017-2018 Calendar will be available in May for a suggested $10 donation at the Mio Ranger Station, 107 McKinley Rd, Mio, MI 48647; Huron Shores Ranger Station, 5761 N. Skeel, Oscoda, MI 48750; and Lumberman’ Monument, 5401 Monument Road, Oscoda, MI. Calendar proceeds support Kirtland’ warbler calendar printing.
