The Great Lakes Center for the Arts offers holiday events for everyone on your list

PETOSKEY, MI – The Great Lakes Center for the Arts is pleased to welcome a holiday lineup sure to spread good cheer! These Upcoming events have something for everyone beginning this weekend with Crooked Tree Art Center’s The Nutcracker jingling all the way up to the New Year as we laugh off awkward holiday dinner conversations with comedian Todd Barry on December 29. Not sure what to give to your boss, friend, or relative? Gift them an experience at the Center they won’t forget with a gift certificate. To purchase a gift certificate online, buy tickets, and learn more about upcoming events and other ways of supporting the Center this holiday season, please visit greatlakescfa.org.

This weekend, enchant your holiday season with Crooked Tree Arts Center School of Ballet’s presentation of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. With three showtimes on December 11 and 12, the original choreography, captivating story, and stunning costumes are a classic must-see this month. A portion of ticket proceeds benefits the CTAC Dance Scholarship Fund.

Holidays at the Great Lakes Center

The following week, a sell-out crowd is expected as the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra presents Messiah on December 16 and 17. In addition to the classic sounds of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, audience members will enjoy excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248.

Next stop, the North Pole! Get your tickets for a special screening of the Polar Express on the Center’s 45-foot cinema screen on December 19 at 2:00PM. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas, and those under 18 will receive a seasonal treat to take home! Experience this inspiring cinematic adventure based on the award-winning children’s book where a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole and ends up embarking on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. Immerse yourself in the joy, excitement, and magic of this holiday classic at the Center. Add to your experience and enjoy a pre-show holiday performance by the Dorothy Gerber Strings Youth Orchestra beginning at 1:45PM.

Have a house full of company? Add some extra laughter to your holiday and bring them to comedian Todd Barry on December 29. Barry is renowned throughout the entertainment industry for his nuanced, measured, and thoroughly original approach to stand-up. For this event only, bring your “holiday cheer” into the show with you! Drawing audience members in with his deadpan self-deprecation and ability to pile punchline upon punchline, his decidedly low-key stage persona perfectly contrasts his deeply intelligent, often biting, occasionally absurdist worldview.

Before purchasing tickets, please review the Covid protocols for each event as they may vary. Tickets can be purchased at greatlakescfa.org, by phone at 231.439.2610, or by e-mail at tickets@greatlakescfa.org. The Box Office in the Center is open for walk-in assistance two hours before the start of all performances.
