Roscommon Rotary hosts Great AuSable River Duck Race

ROSCOMMON – The Roscommon Rotary Club held its annual Great AuSable River Duck Race on July 11 at Wallace Park in Roscommon.

The annual event is a primary fundraiser for the club. Tickets were $25 each. There were three heats in the event with the top two winning $300. The top 20 in each heat were entered into the final.

Pam Long was the grand prize winner taking home $3,000. Prizes were also awarded for second (Greg Sanders – $1,500), third (Debbie Kichman – $700), fourth (Ed Thoma – $500) places. Finishers in places 5-20 won $150 and included: Rheanon Phillips, Betty Spangler, Bob Ollila, Sean Hollister, Suzanne Gore, Dale Buddle Jr., John Schaeffer, Richard Wright (twice), Shirley Powers, Vicki Springstead, Tara Ludwig, Mary Beldyga and Larry Watson.

COVID restrictions prevented the club from holding its annual Spring banquet, which generally raises in excess of $35,000, all of which goes toward a variety of community projects. As a result of the lack of a banquet the past two years, the club raised ticket prices this year so it could continue its work on projects and events that benefit the Higgins Lake and Roscommon areas.
