GRAYLING — Four players scored in double figures as the Grayling boys basketball team pulled out a thrilling 74-70 overtime win over Elk Rapids in a Lake Michigan Conference contest on Thursday.
Troy Summers fired in 23 points to lead the Vikings while Justin Nicholas added 17, Spencer White contributed 15 and Trey Moffit popped in 10. Summer also wiped the glass clean for 19 rebounds, White distributed four assists and Moffict picked off four steals.
“It was an exciting high school game,” Grayling coach Rich Moffit said. “We made some real clutch plays down the stretch to win teh game. Elk Rapids is a tough, physical team and they are well coached. I was really pleased with our toughness. Justin Nicholas hit some clutch shots during pressure moments. Troy Summers and Spencer White were solid all game long.”
The Vikings forged a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and then had a 15-14 edge in the second to take a 35-29 lead at the half. Elk Rapids outscored the Vikings, 20-18 in the third quarter but the Vikings maintained a 53-49 lead into the fourth.
Elk Rapids outscored the Vikings, 17-13 in the fourth to tie the score, 66-66 at the end of regulation. Grayling pulled the game out with an 8-6 advantage in the overtime.
