Pantry moves after 33 years

ROSCOMMON CO. – The Roscommon County Food Pantry (RCFP) at Project Hope has moved to a new location in Houghton Lake: a space in the Save-a-Lot plaza. The pantry had been in the basement of the Denton Township Hall for the last 33 years. However due to limited space and the number of stairs to get to the pantry, a ground level building with more floor space was a necessity.

Director of the Roscommon County Food Pantry LaWanda North said the pantry stays stocked due to many different grants, businesses, churches, community members and more. On average the RCFP helps 350-375 families each month. About 20 volunteers operate the pantry.

To get food from the pantry adults must provide proof that they live in Roscommon county with a state ID or a recent bill with your name and address on it. Also, if you have a very large family in one household, bringing proof of how many in the family is important. Each family can shop through the store once per month.

‘The first week here has been steady and going well.’ Said LaWanda North Director of RCFP

For information on RCFP, look it up on Facebook, call 989-366-5120 or by stopping by the new location.
