Scarves flow at ‘Girl’s Night Out’ in Roscommon

ROSCOMMON-The village of Roscommon was full of ladies enjoying ‘Girls Night Out’ Nov. 8.

Originally started by Jeanie Bennick and Mary Lou Bryce about 15 years ago as ‘Ladies Night Out,’ dozens of women visited shops around town to check out the wares and visit with their friends and neighbors.

Chamber board member Terry Morley and Mary Lou Bryce from Sandbar Designs, who was on the original committee, helped gather items for the gift baskets given away as prizes, everything from massages, restaurant meals, and haircuts.

Cathy Boyle, Higgins Lake Roscommon Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, said, ‘The (event was) a ‘last hurrah’ for girls to head out together before hunting season; now, many hunt themselves!

‘It’ a fun way to promote the shops and businesses while rewarding those who shop local.’

‘Many business owners as well as participants, have a lot of fun that evening, meeting new people, enjoying current and past clients.’

Participants had a chance to win gift baskets with donated items from area businesses. Each shop had a box for visitors to drop an entry form in. Those boxes were returned to the chamber and forms counted to see how many people attended. The drawing for the grand prizes were made Thursday afternoon from the combined entries. Winners were:

Basket #1: Olivia Hele

Basket #2: Clara Mack

Basket #3: Audrey McGee

Basket #4: Lynnsey Burke

Basket #5: Nickie Hartman

Basket #6: Melissa Mead

‘Girls’ were urged to wear their favorite scarves.

‘The scarf theme was suggested as a fun way to have a common theme for everyone,’ Boyle said.

Winners of the scarf contest included:

Most colorful: Tracy Constance and Theresa Ekdom

Craziest Scarf: Reenie Murphy-Jons

Prettiest Scarf: Jaimie Byington

Best Theme Scarf: Ginny Nagel

Judge’ Choice: Andrea Weiss
