St. Helen’ Summer ORV Jam a Success

ST. HELEN- Rainy weather can usually put a wrench in outdoor plans unless your plans are to ride through the mud on your ORV. That’ exactly what people did Saturday August 12th through the 14th at the First Annual Exit 222 Ride Michigan Summer ORV Jam in St. Helen at the Richfield Township Park on Airport Road.

Starting with Pre-Registration Friday afternoon it proved to be an awesome weekend. Saturday’ races ended with a dance in the pavilion with William Broadnax working the DJ boards. Sunday morning an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast was served.

Saturday morning, participants brought out their machines to test their skills in a mud run and sand drag. Children under 16 who participated were required to have their DNR Safety course certificate. A tech evaluation was run on every machine to make sure that they were safe for the ride. The organizers wanted to make certain that everyone had a safe, fun time.

Participants also had opportunities for open riding and a raffle that consisted of helmets, riding apparel, and other great prizes. Melissa Sullivan, one of the organizers posted pictures of the different prizes on the event’ page.

When talking about the raffle prizes on the event’ Facebook page, Sullivan said, ‘The businesses were very generous.’

Sponsored by the Exit 222 ORV Riders and Side By Side Michigan, the event was put together as a fund raiser for the St. Helen We Care Shop. The We Care serves the people of Richfield Township in many ways and they are working on raising $30,000 to purchase their current building before their lease runs out. Food donations were also accepted for the We Feed Pantry.
