HOUGHTON LAKE – More than 100 people came to the Roscommon Area Pilots Association (RAPA) fish fry-in in Houghton Lake recently. Participants gathered inside the aviation hangar and were served buffet style by volunteers. The fry-in included a choice of either baked or fried cod, coleslaw, french fries or a baked potato and a drink. The open area floor plan allowed for visitors and volunteers to mingle while enjoying their meals as well as watching the airplanes that were taking off and landing. Face painting and airplane rides were also a big hit.
This event was co-sponsored by the Houghton Lake Tourism Bureau to bring awareness to the ‘Catch Us if You Can’ fishing contest. RAPA also sponsors the Easter Egg Drop and June fly in, educating the public about aviation in Roscommon County.
‘The EAA Chapter 1580 is currently accepting new members,’ pilot Kevin James said.
James hopes events like this will help to spread the word about aviation and the scholarship programs available to students. For more information contact The Blodgett Airport at 989-366-7660.
