Civil War actors come to Roscommon

ROSCOMMON – The 3rd Battery 1st Michigan Light Artillery will be holding their 4th Annual Civil War Encampment at the Roscommon Fire Training Grounds (former Fairgrounds) on Sept. 10 and 11.

Camps will be set up Friday with activities beginning on Saturday, Sept. 10. Reenactors in period dress will be available on site all day Saturday to answer questions or hold discussions.

A cannon and period weapons – from the Civil War to WWII – will be fired at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Reenactor skirmishes will occur at 2 p.m. At dusk will be a night cannon shoot. Activities will continue after dusk with Civil War songs and stories around the campfire.

Sunday there will be Church Services in the Arbor at 11 a.m. and a final cannon and period weapon shoot at 1 p.m.

The 3rd Battery 1st Michigan Light Artillery is an area group organized to participate in Civil War era encampments and battle reenactments. The reenactors are always happy to talk to you about camp life and the way they lived day to day with the uncertainty of a war that was often raging around them.

The event is free to the public. Donations are accepted to pay for the maintenance and powder for the guns.
