James Edward Rigling, 81, of Prudenville passed away August 19, 2016 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital.
He was born on March 26, 1935 in Owosso to Eli and Thelma (Serr) Rigling. He served in the Navy from 1954 to 1958. . On September 11, 1956 in Angola, Indiana he and Barbara Jean Takens were united in marriage..
Mr. Rigling was employed as an industrial arts teacher, starting out at Shelby Area Schools and then Durand Area Schools before settling at Houghton Lake Community Schools from 1965 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Houghton Lake United Methodist Church and enjoyed woodworking, camping, and watching the grandchildren in their activities.
Surviving are his loving wife of almost 60 years, Barbara Jean Rigling of Prudenville; daughter, Nancy (Rick) LaFave of Escanaba; three sons, Michael Rigling of Mattawan, Andrew (Julie) Rigling of Nagaunee, and Timothy (Kris) Rigling of Tustin; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Rigling; sister, Charlotte Bignall; and sister, Janet Brady.
Visitation is August 24 begins at 10:30 am at Houghton Lake United Methodist Church until the funeral service there at 12 p.m. with Rev. George Spencer officiating.
Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery, Prudenville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jim are asked to be directed to Houghton Lake United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.
