‘Jam’ on

REGION – Members of the ORV community have organized a new event in St. Helen Aug. 12-14: The ORV Jam.

Dennis Potts and Bob Metcalf, members of the Exit 222 ORV Riders Facebook Community, stepped up to host the event along with Ride Michigan.

St. Helen is well known for its trail systems and being welcoming to ATV/ORV riders, and draws a tremendous amount of tourism from motor sports enthusiasts.

‘We knew this event was important to the area’ local economy as well as the participants who were disappointed to hear that the Jamboree was cancelled. So we decided to make it happen! The date and location are the same and the main events will still be the mud and sand runs,’ said Dennis Potts.

The event will also be hosting a non-perishable food drive for St Helen We Care’ We Feed food pantry. All Proceeds from the event are being donated to the St. Helen We Care Shop.

Many have stepped up to make this event a success from sponsors to volunteers. Many of the volunteers are actually people who have been coming to St. Helen to ride for years.

‘They are happy to be able to give back to the community that they consider a second home!’ said Melissa Sullivan, one of the volunteer coordinators.

The ORV Jam will be held August 12-14 at the Richfield Township Campground in St. Helen. Friday, August 12 will be pre-registration at campsite #68 from 6-9 p.m. Following Pre-registration there will be a bonfire and DJ. Admission for the bonfire and DJ is donation only.

The Main events will be held on Saturday, August 13. The sand runs will start at 10 a.m. and the mud runs start at 2 p.m. Following the main events there will be kid’ games, a hotdog roast, awards ceremony and bonfire in the evening. There will also be food vendors, power sports vendors, and ORV/ATV demo rides. Sunday, August 14 there will be a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., $5.00 per person.

Spectators can attend the event for free. Event registration is $10 per class. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Melissa Sullivan, Sullivan.melissa119@gmail.com.
