Charles Halliday Jr. 83, of Prudenville

Charles Halliday Jr.,83, of Prudenville passed away August 25, 2016 at Boulder Creek Assisted Living in Rockford with his family by his side.

He was born on April 22, 1933 in Howell to Charles and Lisette (Heard) Halliday. He grew up in the Houghton Lake area graduating from the Houghton Lake Stone School. He served as a CPL in the Army during the Korean War.

He was married on December 20, 1952 in Prudenville to Valeria Irene Hobohm Halliday. The couple spent most of their life in Houghton Lake except for 10 years that he was employed in Oxford.

Mr. Halliday was employed as a heavy equipment operator in Oxford for ten years before going to work for Halliday Sand and Gravel of Houghton Lake. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed his Friday Night Domino’s Group. He enjoyed and wanted to thank the staff of Boulder Creek Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice of Grand Rapids for his excellent care.

Surviving are his two sons, Steven (Debra) Halliday of FL, and Spencer (Michelle) Halliday of Rockford; and four grandchildren, EmilyHalliday, Andrew Halliday, Jenica(Charlie) Galloway, and Bradley Ream.

Also surviving are two brothers, Clifton Halliday of Houghton Lake, and Walter (Toni) Halliday of Houghton Lake; two sisters, Francis Jeske of Houghton Lake, Freda Akin of Houghton Lake; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Valeria; three sisters, Katherine Halliday, Betty Halliday, and Marion Warner.

Visitation is Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial services at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. William Winter officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Charles are asked to be directed to St. John Lutheran Church or Boulder Creek Assisted Living, 6070 Northland Drive NE, Rockford, Mi. 49431. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
