Bobcat girls win two straight, near .500 mark

HOUGHTON LAKE — Houghton Lake’s girl’ basketball team inched closer to the .500 level for the season with a 55-51 win over Sanford-Meridian on Friday, Jan. 5 in a Jack Pine Conference game.

It was the Bobcats’ second straight win, and lifted their record to 3-4 for the season. Houghton Lake improved to 2-3 in the conference.

“We got off to another good start there were a couple chances in the first half where I thought we had the Mustangs on the ropes and then they would hit a clutch 3-pointer,” Houghton Lake coach Greg Hoffman.

“They ended up hitting five 3’s on the night, we had a few defensive breakdowns as well and gave up too many second chance points. Pretty soon you look up and that lead had evaporated, and we had to win it at crunch time.”

Defensively, the Bobcats sprung a couple leaks, but the players were active with 24 steals and 15 deflections.

Macy Bisabble led the team in scoring for the second game in a row with 21 points. She also had seven rebounds and seven steals. Lainey Meigs had 16 points, four steals and five rebounds.

Alexis Souder finished with six points and three steals. Lexi Blanchard added four points and seven steals. Taylor Nutt contributed four points and three rebounds. Mackenzie Forman and lly Sajdak chipped in with two points each.

The Bobcats defeated Farwell, who was 6-1 coming into the game and averaging around 50 points a game, 43-22. Bisballe led the Bobcats with 23 points and nine rebounds. Meigs finished with nine points, six rebounds and four steals.

Ellie Connect added four points and five rebounds. Logan Oridway contributed three points and two rebounds. Souder had two points and, four steals and three rebounds. Sarah Barnes contributed two points, four rebounds and two steals while Blanchard had seven assists and seven steals.
