Bucks bowlers showing improvement

By Greg Gielczyk
CLARE – Going up against a seasoned and experienced Gladwin bowling team proved quite a handful for the Roscommon girls and boys squads. In the usual format of two Baker Games the Flying G’s rolled up a pair of wins, 151-84 and 189-116 on Saturday, Dec. 10.
With team games of 800-421 and 779-438 in the next two matches Gladwin clearly
dominated the competition. But it was another learning experience for the Bucks, who are
still finding their way in the league.
“Our inexperience showed with the Lady Bucks,” head coach David Osim said. “The great
thing to come out of this is that the girls are gaining experience as they go. They are also
showing improvement and that’s all I can ask.”
High scores for the Lady Bucks came from sophomore Katie Peterson with a 114, followed
by senior Abby Koehn with a 103 and a 104 rolled by senior Meghan Wilson. With five new
bowlers, the Lady Bucks are holding their own.
It was the same story for the boys, who struggled to stay with a powerful Gladwin squad
before losing the two baker games 172-133 and 177-122. The Bucks had no better luck in
match play as they lost, 981-585 and 809-600.
“It’s pretty hard to beat any team in high school bowling that averages 196 per bowler in a
five-man format,” Osim said. “Hats off to the Flying G’s. That’s just good bowling. The bad
thing is this is that we didn’t really do all that bad. We are only in our second year with five
new bowlers and only one senior.
“Our boys never gave up. They just kept working on the games and I would say improved
their level. I knew going into this meet that the Gladwin team was tough. But our boys will
be back. The boys as well as the girls are showing improvement from week to week. Spare
shooting and concentration is where we need some improvement and will be working on
that in practice.”
The Bucks did manage to win one match with junior Caleb Foote rolling games of 130 and
136. Other good scores were rolled by junior Connor Kozumplik with a 153, junior Brady
Hilts with a 110 and 121 and sophomore Justin Pratt with a 117 and 96.
