Eleanor Marie ‘Ellie’ Engle

Eleanor Marie ‘Ellie’ Engle, 77, of Houghton Lake passed away on Saturday September 1, 2018 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Ellie was born on November 7, 1940 to Bruno and Edna Huse. She moved to the Houghton Lake area from Dearborn Heights over 44 years ago. Ellie was married to Arnold Black and later married Harold K. “Hawk” Engle on August 14, 1991 in Houghton Lake. She worked as Head Cashier for Hub Supermarket for many years. Ellie was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles and was an expert seamstress, teaching sewing classes at Kirtland Community College. She also enjoyed gardening and painting woodworking projects that her husband Hawk created.

Surviving Mrs. Engle are her two daughters; Denise Ancel of Houghton Lake and Sue Reffitt of Houghton Lake, son; Bill Black of Houghton Lake, six grandchildren; Kevin Reffitt, Kyle Reffitt, Kole Reffitt, Keina Reffitt, David Ancel and Ricky Ancel, great grandchildren; Josh Ancel, Levee Reffitt, and Sophia Ancel, three sisters; Lily Sieloff of South Lyon, Fran Rogers of Garden City and Bev Kunkle of Garden City, several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold K Engle, and brother, Charlie Huse.

Funeral Services for Eleanor Marie Engle will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday September 7, 2018 at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Rev. William Winter officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. on Friday September 7, 2018 at the funeral home.
