David Lee Wakefield

David Lee Wakefield, 69, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday April 24, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side.

David was born on July 23, 1948 in Flint to Donald and Mary (Westfall) Wakefield. David grew up in the Bay City area where he graduated from high school and then attended Delta College.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War era.

David Owned/Operated Wakefield Construction in Houghton Lake for many years.

He was married to Catherine “Katie” Jonkis, whom preceded him in death.

On December 30, 2012 in West Branch David married Kelly Marie Staelgraeve, whom survives.

David was a member of the American Tae kwon do Association and was a 6th Degree Black Belt and Instructor in Tae kwon do. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching sports, especially when watching his grandchildren and spending time with them.

Surviving Mr. Wakefield are his loving wife, Kelly Wakefield of Houghton Lake; daughter, Kylea Wakefield of Houghton Lake; two grandchildren, Alex Smith and MacKenzie Smith both of Houghton Lake.

David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine “Katie” Wakefield; son, Travis Wakefield; and brother Wayne.

Private family Celebration of Life Services for David Lee Wakefield will be conducted.

Memorial contributions in memory of David are asked to be directed to the American Cancer Society.
