Erma M. (Sheets) Phipps

Erma M. (Sheets) Phipps, 91, of Houghton Lake passed away on Nov. 11, 2017 at Munson Grayling Hospital surrounded by her family.

Erma was born on Sept. 21, 1926 in Putnam County, Ohio to James and Marie (Chamberlain) Harris. She grew up in Ohio and graduated from Continental High School in Continental, Ohio.

After meeting the love of her life, Edward Sheets, Erma moved to Houghton Lake from the Monroe area in the early 1970’s. She was a Waitress for Woodland, Holiday on the Lake, and Long Branch before retiring.

After retirement she was an active member of the Houghton Lake Eagles where she volunteered until the age of 75. She enjoyed talking with people, dancing in her younger years, crocheting, sewing, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving Mrs. Phipps are her daughters, Carol (Daniel) Neal of Monroe and Ann Shavalia of Houghton Lake; granddaughters, Angela Taylor of Houghton Lake, and Mary Ellen Neal of Monroe; grandson, Tom Shavalia of UT; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Katiann and Alex, sister, Ruth (Robert) Scherer of Continental, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents James and Marie Harris, husbands, Will Piper, Edward Sheets, and William Phipps; and brothers, Emerson Harris and James Harris, Jr.

Funeral Services for Erma M. Phipps will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017 from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Lay Minister Sue Lazell officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery.
