Burton Edward Reed

Burton Edward Reed, 87, of Gladwin, formerly of Prudenville passed away Nov. 12, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

Burton was born on Oct. 20, 1930 in Isabella County to Edger and Kate (Ryckman) Reed. He served as a PFC in the Army during Korean War. Burton worked as a Mechanic at General Motors for many years.

He was married on Apr. 28, 1951 in Houghton Lake to Carmen M. Wilson. The couple moved to Prudenville in 1979 from Clio. Burton was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in his yard.

Surviving Mr. Reed are his son, Patrick Reed of Gladwin; daughters, Terry Hawthorne of Gladwin, Nila Reed of Houghton Lake, and Rose Suhlett of Merritt; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Cecil (Darlene) Reed of Evart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carmen Reed, daughters Cindy Alexander and Ann Wilson, and son Bert Reed.

Per Burton’s wishes cremation has taken place and private family services will be held. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Burton are asked to be directed to the Roscommon County Animal Shelter. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com.
