On Friday, August 10th, the Knights of Columbus and the Friends of the Gladwin County Libraries will put on a FISH FRY at the KofC hall on M-18 south of Gladwin from 4 pm to 7 pm. There will be fried and baked fish, fried shrimp (for $2 extra), baked potatoes, French-fries, coleslaw or garden salad, coffee or soft drinks and cake for dessert. Aside from the excellent menu, there will be baked goods and other items for sale and FREE BOOKS for children, who need not be present to receive them.
The purpose of the fish fry is to raise funds for Dolly Parton’ Imagination Library. The Imagination Library sends a new book every month to enrolled children from birth to age 5 at a modest cost to each participating family. Unfortunately, some families cannot afford even the ‘modest’ cost.
The Library Friends raise money to defray even these modest costs in the Clare/Gladwin RESD to ensure that all children can participate, regardless of family finances. By the time the child is ready for kindergarten, he or she will have a library of as many as sixty books readily at hand.
The objective is to familiarize very young children with books and help them learn to read, for reading is the very foundation of education. Reading to a child in the early years of development promotes parental bonding by an act that is enjoyable by parent and child. Please come, enjoy the food and contribute to this worthy cause.
