ROSCOMMON – On the afternoon of June 7 a tax-reverted house on 202 N Main Street in Roscommon was demolished by Roscommon S & J Excavating.

Roscommon County Treasurer Rebecca Ragan said the county owned the property.

“On March 21 of this year the property was foreclosed for delinquent taxes. After taking possession of the property, we were informed that there was a judgment of demolition. The judgment stated that by June 1 the house must be torn down. Here at the county we try to clean up unsafe properties that come into our possession after foreclosure … This house wasn’t up to code- it was unsafe,” Ragan said.

There will be a public auction at Ellisons Place (former Jay’s Sporting Goods in Gaylord) on Aug. 19. Registration is at 11 a.m. with the auction starting at noon. Bidding will start at $7,200, the cost of the back due taxes.
