GERRISH TOWNSHIP – Roscommon County children will soon have access to a new playground this spring thanks to a generous grant from the Roscommon Rotary Club. Gerrish Township was successful in securing a grant toward the purchase of playground equipment. The new play structure will be installed behind the Township Municipal Center in June.
Gerrish Township is seeking volunteers to help with equipment construction during a two-day Community Build Program on June 3-4. Approximately five volunteers are needed for Day 1 to do prep work such unwrapping and organizing equipment and digging holes with large equipment. An additional 30-35 volunteers are needed for Day 2 to help construct playground equipment and apply materials such as concrete, play curbs, and engineered wood fiber to the site.
Interested volunteers can add their names to a sign-up sheet at the Gerrish Township Police Department. “Any help…would be greatly appreciated,” Administrative Clerk Julie Hill said. “This will be a great addition to our facility for our community.”
Volunteers will gather at the Gerrish Township Municipal Center at 10 a.m. on June 3 and 8 a.m. on June 4.
A representative from GameTime-Sinclair Recreation will oversee the installation process. While some tools will be provided, Gerrish Township asks volunteers to supply hand tools such as rakes, shovels, and wheel barrels for use on June 4. Water and lunch will be provided.
