Help horses help vets

COLEMAN – A brunch and an Italian dinner will be held to raise funds for the Veterans Serendipity Ranch, a local charity that provides equine therapy for military veterans and families, first responders, children with special health concerns, and those at risk of suicide. Both meals will be by donation, with recommendations of $8 for the brunch and $10 for the Italian dinner.

On Sunday, Nov. 12, a pancake brunch will be held at the VFW Hall in Coleman from 1-3 p.m. The meal will include pancakes, oatmeal, sausage, bacon, fruit, milk, coffee and juice.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, an Italian dinner will be held at the VFW hall in St. Louis from 5 until? The menu will include spaghetti with meat sauce, lasagna, Italian sausage with braised green peppers and onion, garlic bread, salad and dessert. A variety of baked goods will also be available.

Veterans Serendipity Ranch pairs therapy participants with one of the program’ eight horses, most of whom were rescue animals themselves. The ranch is about using therapy by horses to aid in the process of recovery.

Funds raised through the dinners will help cover expenses ranging from horse therapy sessions and related program costs, to the care and housing of the horses. Individual sponsoring of veterans and horses is also available.

VSR is a 501(c)3 registered charity. Visit the Veteran Serendipity Ranch page on Facebook for more information, or contact Debbie Praay at 989-370-3030 or Marilyn Bowen at 989-370-7502.
