ROSCOMMON COUNTY–Visitors and residents alike can enjoy the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ free activities this weekend.

Residents and out-of-state visitors can ride DNR-designated routes and trails June 10-11 (and Aug. 19-20). Off-road enthusiasts will not need to possess an ORV license or trail permit on these dates, saving riders up to $36.25.

Where to ride
In addition to DNR-designated routes and trails, the weekend also includes the use of one of the state’ five scramble areas, St. Helen’ Motorsport Area.

The Roscommon County Economic Development marketing committee has arranged for Michigan’s Other Great Lakes Family Fishing Fest today (June 10) in conjunction with free fishing weekend.

Fishing Contest Rules
1. No registration required! 2. Participants will be subdivided based on the following age groups: (a) (youth) which is 16 yrs. and under and b: (adult)17 yrs. and older. Youth Entrants must be accompanied by an adult. 3. Tournament weigh-in: Fishing is from 8 a.m. to noon on June 10 on any lake, river or stream in ROSCOMMON COUNTY. Weigh in is completed at 1 p.m. at Houghton Lake and Lake St. Helen, 3 p.m. at Higgins Lake. 4. Prizes will be awarded after the last weigh-in at each site. 5. Prizes will be awarded for various species per lake. Prizes will be awarded for both Adult and Youth at each location: Higgins Lake, St. Helen, and Houghton Lake. 6. Awards are based on length (length and weight in the matter of a tie). 7. Anglers will be eligible for one award only, even if they have multiple entries. There also will be a grand prize awarded at each lake. Any fish brought in to the weigh in will be entered for the grand prize. 8. All State of Michigan fishing rules and regulations plus boating safety regulations must be followed.

Fish responsibly – please release all fish you will not be eating.

Accepted catch for judging Perch Lake Trout Rock Bass Pike Vendors and activities until 4 p.m

HOUGHTON LAKE WEIGH IN AT DNR SOUTH BOAT ACCESS
Accepted catch for judging Perch Pike Bass Bluegill Walleye Vendors and activities until 1 p.m.

LAKE ST. HELEN WEIGH IN AT BOAT LAUNCH/LAKE ST. HELEN Accepted catch for judging Bass Pike Panfish Vendors and activities

Activities vary at each site – gift bags will be given away.
The grand prize at each site is a guided fishing tour on one of Michigan’ Other Great Lakes. Turn in a fish and get a ticket for the grand prize.
