Teen angler lands large trout

ROSCOMMON – Isaac Green of South Main Street, Roscommon, loves to fish.

The 14-year-old was rewarded opening day of trout season this year by catching a 16-inch brook trout in the South Branch of the AuSable River.

The state brook trout record is 28 inches. The size of Isaac’ brook trout qualifies him to apply for a place on the Michigan Master Angler’ list. The minimum size for a brook trout to qualify for that list is 15 inches.

This was Isaac’ second catch of the day; the other was a 13-inch brown trout.

Isaac’ dad Bill Green is a fly fisherman, while Isaac uses worms and spinners. Bill said Isaac has loved to fish since he was big enough to wind up a line on a reel.

Isaac is very knowledgeable and respectful of all of the fishing laws; he reminds other kids to obey those laws. He also asks permission from land owners before he ventures onto their property to fish.
