Fifteen years of ‘crossing the bridge’

ROSCOMMON – The annual event began around 15 years ago.

“I couldn’t go up to the Mackinac Bridge, I didn’t have time; and we have a bridge just as famous!” Carol Garlo said.

And so the tradition of crossing the AuSable Bridge in Roscommon began. Anyone is welcome to walk the bridge. There are no advance notices, just people gathering on the south side of the bridge until 7 p.m. Then, they walk across the bridge, chat a little on the other side, and walk back. For some, the walk to the bridge is longer than the one across it.

The AuSable Bridge crossing happens each year, rain or shine, on Labor Day. Be sure to put it on your calendar for next year!
